Types of Interior House Wall Paint in Sagaponack, NY; from Matte to Gloss

When you think about selecting paint for your interior painting project you probably start thinking about what color you want your walls to be.  Picking a paint color is just the first step in the paint purchasing process.  Once you choose your color you will need to decide on what kind of paint you want for your project.  Many people have heard words like matte and gloss but they are not always sure exactly what they mean.  L.W. Winslow Painting Inc. wants to take the confusion and mystery out of the different types of interior paint today.

Matte Finish Paint for Walls

Of the different types of interior paint matte paint is one of the most common.  As the name implies, there is no shine or sheen to this finish.  If you are painting walls and ceilings where you do not want the paint to be a focal point or distraction this is an excellent choice.  It is easy to apply.  Matte paint can be applied with a brush or roller.  Typically it does take two coats to get a nice solid color.  Matte paint is easily marked but most of the marks can be removed with a damp cloth.  You will need to retouch over some of the marks that do not come off though.

Flat Enamel Paint

Flat enamel is very similar to matte paint but it is more durable.  Any marks that get on flat enamel paint typically come right off.   If you have small children this is an excellent choice for you.  It can be applied with a brush or roller.

Satin Wall Paint

Satin finish is between a matte and a gloss finish.  It does produce a low, soft sheen.  Using a satin finish on walls with imperfections is not recommended because it will make the imperfections stand out even more.  Satin finish can be cleaned easily.

Eggshell Paint Finishes

Many people think that satin and eggshell finishes are the same.  The difference between these two finishes is that eggshell does not have as smooth of a finish as satin finish.  Both finishes will give you a subtle shine though.  Eggshell paint is able to cover imperfections in your wall better than satin finish.  Many times eggshell finish only requires one coat of paint to fully cover the wall.

Semi Gloss Paint

Semi gloss paint is frequently used on trim pieces in homes.  Semi gloss has a nice hard finish that makes it perfect for heavy use.  It is easy to clean with soap and water.  It does have gloss in it but not as much as full gloss paint.  A single coat is all that is normally required.  Semi gloss is not used on walls very frequently.

High Gloss Paint Sheen

After matte paint gloss paint is the most common interior wall paint.  You can use it on walls or trim pieces.  Gloss paint shows all of the imperfections on a wall.  You will typically need two coats of gloss paint for a solid color.  Gloss paint does take more time to dry so make sure you leave yourself extra time between coats for the paint to dry.
