Painting Ceilings in North Sea, NY; Wall & Ceiling Color Combinations & More

Have you ever thought about painting your ceiling? The ceiling is considered the fifth wall by many interior designers and provides a great opportunity to get creative. You can break up the white without adding a lot of color by mixing a few drops of white paint with the color that is already on the walls. You can also dive in and put the full color on the ceiling without diluting it. This can add design interest and create a focal point in the room. This will also balance the room if the ceilings are high. The white ceiling won’t look a void above you, but part of the room’s design that was well-thought out. The best way to create balance when painting a ceiling is if you do it in a room that isn’t too big.  Painting a ceiling in a big room might create an overwhelming feeling rather than an enhancement.

Painting Ceilings Adds Drama

If you want to add some drama to a bathroom or the dining room, consider using a metallic or sparkly color on the ceiling. These are two rooms that are great with painted ceilings because they are usually smaller. Plus, it’s like a highlight wall that is horizontal and above you rather than vertical and right in front of you. You’ll get an even better effect if you have crown molding in the room because it will draw the eye up and allow the molding to pop.

Painted Ceilings in Small Rooms

Again, small rooms look great with a painted ceiling. But consider painting everything the same color. This includes the walls, baseboards and any other moldings, and the ceiling. You can even paint the doors. While it seems like it may be overwhelming, it actually isn’t. No breaks in color creates a sense of infinity and can look stunning. If you think you might like this look, try it out in a small room like the bathroom where it will work well and won’t take a lot of time to change if you want to.

Wall & Ceiling Color Combinations

Color blocking is the idea of adding a few drops of color, or more, of the wall color to white paint for the ceiling. Consider, navy on the walls and lighter on the ceiling in a bathroom, a deep green color and lighter on the ceiling of a den can create a space that feels warm and cozy. You can even paint the shelves in the den the deep green color for a different look. Painting the ceiling a dark color can be dramatic and even romantic. Even better in rooms that are smaller and have high ceilings. In a bedroom it can be comforting, like looking up at the night sky.

You will also need to consider the finish of the paint. A flat finish is the best option for ceilings. Any other sheen will make imperfections stick out with artificial and natural lighting the room will be exposed to. If you have any other questions about painting your ceiling, contact L.W.
