How to Texture a Wall By Hand or Roller in Shinnecock Hills, NY; Stencils, Drywall Finish & More

Most people want their home to represent themselves and things that make it feel like home. Some of the ways to do that is to add to the interior things that will set it apart from others. The walls in your home are a great place to start when you are trying to be unique. There are always trends that come and go through different times but there are others that can stand through them all. Wallpaper was a big hit for many homeowners but then went away for a long time. Then wallpaper made its way back with a more defined and elegant look and feel. If you are not ready to take on wallpaper you can always add uniqueness to the space by adding texture to the walls. The texture will give an otherwise boring wall some definition. There are many options that exist when it comes to texture that is being added to the walls. L.W. Winslow Painting, Inc outlines some of the ways to add texture to the walls in your home.

Painted Wall Stencils

If you want to have a way to show some fun and texture on your walls you can start by using a stencil painting. This is a way to not actually give any physical texture to the wall but still give the eye something to look at. You want to have a base color that you have your walls painted and the secondary color to add the stencil with. The color can be bold and stand out or it can be a color that is only a few shades darker or lighter than the base coat. The other great thing about having stencils applied to your wall is that there are tons of options. You can use a pattern that has shape or you can choose words and sayings that have a meaning to you and your family. You want to make sure you talk with your painter and decide what is best and what walls are best for your new stencil work.

Drywall Texture Techniques

When you have your walls prepped for paint you will likely have them repaired. This might mean that there are areas that need to have a drywall patch or hole filled in. The drywall is the base level and if it is smooth you can have texture added in several different ways. The painter can often use tools such as brushes and trawls to add the material and move it around so that there is texture left over. Then once the texture has been dried it can be painted and the final product shows off this new and usually subtle texture.

Painted Brick & Wood Paneling

If you have a wall that is brick you can leave it rather than cover it up with drywall. The brick can be treated and painted and leaves a great looking finish with some amazing texture. The other option that you can choose is to have wood panels installed on the walls. This can be from floor to ceiling or it can be a half wall so that it reaches where a chair rail would sit. You want to make sure that you have this done by a professional so that it is done properly and that they can then be painted.
